#15 Sheldon GardinerIn a surprise move on November 1, 2000 Sheldon Gardiner held a tearful press conference to announce his retirement from the Buzzards as a full time player. He said he now looks forward to his days behind the bench & in the press box managing the Alumni Operations and preparing for tournament play and road trips.
He remains as a potential spare at all times, but claims that he will only play a few games. Gards valled ESPN to host the retirement press conference...No one attendend. "Gards" is a legendary Buzzard & all-around athlete. He is a dominant pitcher on his Provincial champion fastball team, and he hit for power in his stint with the 2000 city champion Rough Sliders slo-pitch team.He also loves to golf. He aspires to master every sport he plays. He hopes to be as good a golfer as fellow teammate Jeff Helper some day. Sheldon retired citing that his competitive spirit has faded, but don't believe a word of it. When he steps on the ice, his natural instincts take over. Gards was notorious for blasting down the wing and going right through a defenceman to take the puck to the net. He enjoys the time spent with his Buzzards family, and loves hearing those affectionate words..."Hey Gards!" Stats:
